27 May The Shard
Sellar flew to Berlin in the spring of 2000 to meet the Italian architect Renzo Piano for lunch. According to Sellar, Piano spoke of his contempt for conventional tall buildings during the meal, before flipping over the restaurant’s menu and sketching a spire-like sculpture emerging from the River Thames. Neo-futurism is a late-20th/early-21st century architectural style.
It evolved out of high-tech architecture, developing many of the same themes and ideas. Seen as a departure from the more sceptical and referential style of post-modernism, and more of an idealistic approach to the future. It aims to rethink the aesthetics and functionality of rapidly growing urban areas.
